Meet The Creative Mind Behind Orchid Hair

Sanna Kaarina Seppanen

Hair Department Head | Wig Designer | Hairstylist

After emigrating from Finland to Canada with her family as a child, Sanna Seppanen launched her career designing hair for film and television in Vancouver, B.C. A second-generation hair stylist, there was no question that Seppanen would follow the path previously forged by her late mother.

With a career spanning over 25 years, Seppanen’s creativity and passion is evident in her body of work. She honed her talent in the rapidly growing British Columbia television and film industry. As the head of several hair departments, she managed sizeable crews on films such as Warcraft: The Beginning and Big Eyes. She first met producer Noah Hawley on the first season of Legion and reunited on the fourth installment of his award-winning limited series Fargo. She recreated the exciting styles of the times in the 1978–1984 rise of the Lakers dynasty in Winning Time. She not only designed and styled the 16th century, extremely popular dramatization of Shogun, she developed a completely new style of wig, marrying the traditional Japanese samurai wigs with the more modern western techniques. Seppanen has also enjoyed collaborating with Francis Lawrence on the Apple TV+ drama See starring Jason Momoa.

Additional credits include Pachinko, Fifty Shades of Grey, The Big White, Okja, Scary Movie, Josie and the Pussycats, 2012, and Elysium — where she was particularly fond of the resulting design work on Jodie Foster’s wig.

Seppanen has worked as a personal hair stylist to celebrities such as Emily Blunt, Courtney Love, Sarah Shahi, and Jason Momoa. She has mastered working with wigs and has her own hair extension company.

She enjoys immersing herself in different time periods, cultures and styles in an effort to advance her art.
